Hillsborough County honors Task Force for helping to eliminate domestic violence in the community

Over the past 30-plus years, much progress has been made to support domestic violence victims and survivors, to hold abusers accountable, and to create and update legislation to further those goals. The Hillsborough County Domestic Violence Task Force and all its partners have made significant strides in raising awareness and teaching people how to take preventive measures to eliminate domestic violence in the community.

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation during the Oct. 6 meeting declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence Awareness Month was launched nationwide in October 1987 as a way to connect and bring together individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues while raising awareness for those issues. Hillsborough County Domestic Violence Task Force Co-chairs Jennifer Coffman and Tennille Myslicki were the recipients of the recognition.

As she accepted the proclamation, Hoffman thanked the Board and said that domestic violence is a vital issue that impacts so many.

“Over the last several years, our task force members have developed a coordinated community response to domestic violence,” she said. “We look forward to continuing our efforts on improving the local response to domestic violence and making our community safer for domestic violence victims.”

The Board of County Commissioners also presented the 2022 Anti-Bullying Recognition Award to Emma Campbell, a fifth-grader at Lawton Chiles Elementary School. Additionally, a proclamation was presented declaring October 2022 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a commendation was presented to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Hispanic Advisory Council.
