Branchton Park Expansion to Transform Park into a Recreation Destination for Northeast Hillsborough

Through community input, a multiphase expansion will bring exciting new amenities to a favorite green space in the Thonotosassa area

The vision of many Thonotosassa community members will soon become reality and bring new recreational activities to all who call northeast Hillsborough County home. In the true spirit of collaboration, local residents provided valuable input to drive a major expansion of Branchton Park that will preserve the space and create an amenity that will be enjoyed for years to come.

Known for its beauty and character, Branchton Park is a favorite green space for those in Thonotosassa and surrounding communities like Cross Creek, Heritage Isles, and Cory Lake Isles. A multiphase expansion is now underway to expand the present-day park to 43 acres with new recreational opportunities for the 45,000 residents who live within a 10-minute drive from the park.

At the Sept. 14 groundbreaking, plans were revealed for the $6 million first phase, which calls for four pickleball courts, a large playground and splash pad, walking trails, restrooms, and 70 parking spaces. Future phases will include dog parks for large and small dogs, an event pavilion, and additional walking trails, including boardwalks.

Based on local input, Hillsborough County will seek a private-public partnership to construct a zipline course – the first of its kind in the area. This, and all the improvements, are guided by public input and feedback on the recreational resources most important to the community.

With more than 176 neighborhood parks, Hillsborough County invites the community to discover all the adventures available in your own backyard and beyond.
