After leading the University of Tampa to a Spartan Invite team title, Emily Van De Wiele has been named the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
Van De Wiele receives the Swimmer of the Week nod after piloting UT to a Spartan Invite victory. The Bettendorf, Iowa native finished first in the 200 Free (1:50.56) and 100 Free (50.39). She was also part of the winning 200 Medley Relay (1:41.90), 200 Free Relay (1:33.04), 800 Free Relay (7:30.81), and 400 Free Relay (3:22.21) teams. Van De Wiele finished second in the 400 Medley Relay (3:45.91) and 100 Back (55.38) while placing third in the 50 Free (23.49). The junior registered NCAA “B” cut times in the 100 Free, 200 Free, 100 Back, 50 Free, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of December 12 – 19, 2022. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.
