County Commissioners also recognize Parks & Recreation, Capital Programs, and Community & Infrastructure Planning for achievements

October is Safe Sleep Awareness Month, designated to promote healthy sleeping habits for newborns and raise awareness about sleep-related risks to infants. The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County’s Prevent Needless Deaths Campaign has proven to be instrumental in providing safe-sleep education for parents and caregivers to prevent unsafe infant sleep practices. Their guidelines save lives, as deaths caused by unsafe sleep practices are 100 percent preventable.

During the Hillsborough County’s October Quarterly Awards ceremony, the Board of County Commissioners recognized the Children’s Board for their hard work and commitment to Hillsborough County’s children by presenting a proclamation declaring October as Safe Sleep Awareness Month. Kelley Parris, executive director of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the organization.

Other recognitions presented during the Quarterly Awards Ceremony included:

• The American Planning Association: Florida Chapter’s Award of Merit in the Best Practices Category to Community and Infrastructure Planning Department

• The Florida Transportation Builders Association’s 2022 Best of Construction Award in the LAP Category to Hillsborough County Capital Programs

• The 2022 National Recreation and Park Association’s Innovation in Social Equity Award to Parks & Recreation

• The Florida Recreation and Park Association’s Rising Star Award to Mary Cales of Parks & Recreation
