Mayor Jane Castor Congratulates Tampa Bay Lightning on Memorable Season

Mayor Jane Castor will be available at 1:00 p.m. to discuss our amazing Tampa Bay Lightning, the first team to reach the Stanley Cup Finals three years in a row in nearly 40 years.

“This year’s team fought through so many injuries, battled back countless times and came so close to hoisting the Stanley Cup for the third year in a row,” Mayor Castor said. “They truly made us Champa Bay proud. The Bolts gave us everything they had and left it all on the ice.”

The Bolts aren’t just winners on the ice, but they are also champions in our community. Jeff and Penny Vinik, owners of the team, invest in our community through the arts, charitable donations and the Water Street development.

On Sunday night, the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program donated more than $1.2M million to charities as each of their 200+ full time employees received a $5,000 grant to the non-profit of their choice.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have been in the Conference Finals in six of the last eight years and in the Stanley Cup Finals in four of the last eight years.

“Congratulations to the Colorado Avalanche,” Mayor Castor said. “After spending some time in the Rocky Mountains, I know that we’ll be bringing Stanley back home again next year so he can work on his tan here in Tampa.”

Thank you, Tampa Bay Lightning, for another incredible season. From everyone at the City of Tampa, and the entire Tampa Bay community, get some rest and we’ll see you in the fall when we go get that fourth Stanley Cup Championship!
