Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Council Latinos Unidos Luncheon to Feature High-Tech Entrepreneur

Mayor Jane Castor and the Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Council will welcome Elias Torres, co-founder and CTO of Drift as keynoter of the 2022 Latinos Unidos Luncheon on May 11, 2022 at Armature Works

The event marks the return of the luncheon for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Torres will share his success story as the co-founder and CTO of Drift, as well as share insights about the tech industry’s growth in Tampa Bay.

Net proceeds of the luncheon support the Council’s endowed scholarships at Hillsborough Community College, the University of South Florida and University of Tampa, which are awarded to local Hispanic students with financial need. Torres himself was a recipient of a Latino Scholarship in 1995 and is the first luncheon speaker with that distinction.

Elias Torres previously served as the VP of Engineering at HubSpot and helped grow their revenue to $100 million after the acquisition of his previous company Performable. Prior to Performable, Elias served as VP of Engineering at Lookery and spent the first ten years of his career as an engineer at IBM.

In addition to starting, advising and helping early-stage companies, Elias is passionate about building winning teams. He is also a community activist focused on supporting Hispanic entrepreneurs across the United States. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Entrepreneur and TechCrunch.

Torres graduated from Leto High School in Tampa and went on to USF where he attained a BA in Business Administration prior to attending Harvard where he obtained a SM in Computer Science.
