No. 6 Spartans get it done in four in against the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP: 

Final Score: No.6 Tampa 3 (1: 25-12, 2: 25-17, 4: 25-17), Embry-Riddle 1 (3: 25-23)

Records: No.6 Tampa (22-2, 12-2 SSC) , Embry-Riddle (15-11, 6-9 SSC)

Location: ICI Center | Daytona Beach, Fla.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

First Set: Back and forth scoring for the first 11 points of the set. The Spartans went on a 6-0 run with back-to-back kills from Kalli Cors, which led to the first timeout of the match by Embry-Riddle. Tampa’s second service ace of the set from Cors, extended their lead to 17-8 and the Eagles were forced to another timeout. Another 6-0 run from the Spartans helped them secure the first one. Score: 25-12 Tampa

Second Set: The Spartans got out to a 8-3 lead early in the set. Embry-Riddle cut it to four points at 12-8, but Tampa went on a 6-2 run after that. The Eagles made a set of it going on a late run, but it wasn’t enough to get past the Spartans. Nathaly Perez had four kills in the set, including the last one. Score: 25-17 Tampa

Third Set: A very tightly contested set. There were four lead changes and the largest lead in the set was four. Tampa was up 18-16 and then the Eagles went on a 6-0 run and took the lead. Tampa made things interesting at the end coming back and making it 24-23, but Embry-Riddle came out of the timeout and put things to bed. Score: 25-23 Embry-Riddle

Fourth Set: The Spartans got out of the gates hot on a 9-2 run, getting kills from Mackenzie Dufresne, Jenna Vaske, and Tess Schrenger. The Eagles cut the Spartans lead to four at 20-16. The Spartans after that went on a 5-1 run to close out the match in Daytona Beach. Score: 25-17 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS: 

  • Perez hit at a .630 clip, going 18-27.
  • Cors and Schrenger both had 13 kills a piece.
  • This marks the Spartans 8th win in a row.
