The partnership between CareerSource Pinellas and St. Petersburg College (SPC) just got stronger, when CareerSource Pinellas recently approved up to $1.2 million toward training vouchers that would allow eligible Pinellas County residents aged 18 and older to attend SPC programs aligned with targeted occupations.
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act is a federal program that provides funding to aid individuals in becoming self-sufficient by providing them funding for short-term training and education, as well as support services and job placement assistance.
“This program aligns perfectly with SPC’s mission to change the lives of individuals, their families and the entire community through education. It also reinforces our commitment to strengthening the Tampa Bay area’s workforce pipeline,” said Dr. Tonjua Williams, President of St. Petersburg College. “We are proud and honored to be a part of this partnership with CareerSource Pinellas.”
CareerSource Pinellas has aligned funding with more than 80 programs at SPC, in the areas of arts; business; education; engineering, manufacturing and building arts; health sciences and veterinary technology; public safety, public policy and legal studies; science; social and behavioral science/human services; and technology.

The webinar will explain the criteria for eligibility, discuss the educational opportunities for eligible participants and answer any questions attendees may have. Meier said everyone is invited – even if they are already in school.
“We invite both currently enrolled students, as well as people thinking about going back to school, to join us on Sept. 1 to learn more about funding available for their continuing education,” Meier said.
