Rep. Vern Buchanan, who has represented Florida’s 16th District in the U.S. Congress since 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives, recently shared a series of statements on social media addressing child welfare, political violence, and law enforcement actions involving minors. Buchanan, born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, emphasized bipartisan cooperation and public safety concerns.

On July 12, 2025, Buchanan expressed his commitment to child welfare initiatives by announcing his participation in a congressional caucus focused on adoption policy. He stated: “Every child deserves a safe, loving home. That’s why I’m proud to join the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Coalition on Adoption Caucus. I’m committed to advancing policies that support families and protect children.”

The following day, July 13, 2025, Buchanan commented on the anniversary of an attempted assassination targeting President Biden. He wrote: “One year ago, @POTUS survived an attempted assassination, underscoring the dangers of violent political rhetoric. Proud to join with @MikeKellyPA and @RepPfluger to honor the victims and condemn the attempts. Political violence has no place in America.”

Later that same day, Buchanan referenced a federal operation involving unaccompanied minors at a California cannabis farm linked to a donor associated with Governor Gavin Newsom. He remarked: “Federal agents have rescued 9 unaccompanied minors from a California cannabis farm tied to a major Newsom donor. While Democrats turn a blind eye, @HouseGOP is fighting to secure the border, protect kids and hold criminals accountable.”

Vern Buchanan graduated from Cleary University in 1975 with a BA degree and later from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1986.
