Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of posts on social media between August 31 and September 1, 2025, highlighting his legislative priorities and outreach efforts.
On August 31, Buchanan wrote about his return to Washington after the congressional recess: “I’m ready to return to Washington after hearing from many of you during the August recess about what you want Congress to fight for. Later that day, Buchanan addressed the ongoing drug crisis in the United States. He stated: “In 2024, more than 80,000 Americans lost their lives to overdoses. Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. He was born in Detroit in 1951 and currently resides in Sarasota. Buchanan earned degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
