Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used his social media platform to comment on ongoing government operations and international developments.
On October 11, 2025, Buchanan posted about his meeting with local airport officials, stating, “I met with leaders at @SRQAirport who shared how their air traffic controllers and TSA agents are showing up every day to keep travelers safe. These are real people, not bargaining chips. It’s time for Democrats to reopen the government and stop risking the safety of our skies.”
The following day, on October 12, 2025, Buchanan criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party in relation to a government shutdown. He wrote, “Friday, when thousands of Americans missed their paychecks, Chuck Schumer told @PunchbowlNews that ‘every day gets better’ for Democrats. @HouseGOP passed a clean CR to keep America open, while Democrats taunt hardworking Americans.”
On October 13, 2025, Buchanan shifted focus to foreign policy, commending President Biden’s actions in the Middle East: “.@POTUS’ bold leadership secured the first phase of a historic peace deal, a critical step toward lasting peace in the Middle East. I applaud his strength and resolve in standing with Israel and bringing hostages home.”
Buchanan has served in Congress since 2007 after replacing Katherine Harris and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1951 and currently resides in Sarasota. Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
