Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on his social media account on February 9, 2026, addressing issues ranging from health and nutrition to tax relief for seniors and disaster recovery efforts.
In a post made early in the day, Buchanan referenced former boxing champion Mike Tyson while emphasizing the importance of nutrition: “Agreed @MikeTyson: the most important fight we can win starts with real food. Let’s Make America Healthy Again. https://t.co/z2PtwlDatg” (February 9, 2026).
Later that afternoon, Buchanan highlighted new tax benefits available to seniors in his district during the current tax season: “This tax season, many of our district’s nearly 200,000 seniors will be able to benefit from a NEW $6,000 deduction under @HouseGOP’s Working Families Tax Cuts! If you or a loved one are a senior looking for free tax assistance, find local aides here: https://t.co/em4jylhKor” (February 9, 2026).
In an evening update, Buchanan addressed energy affordability following hurricanes in Florida. He stated: “After hurricanes, Florida families are focused on rebuilding, not higher power bills. That’s why I helped introduce the Disaster Zone Energy Affordability and Investment Act with @RepGregSteube to restore power faster and lower costs for consumers. https://t.co/1GMoK9FzJ2 https://t.co/0xHM1UQo3l” (February 9, 2026).
Buchanan has served as the representative for Florida’s 16th District since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007. Before joining Congress, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
