Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress and serves as Chair of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, has recently highlighted several issues of national importance through his social media posts.
On August 9, 2025, Buchanan posted about his commitment to healthcare affordability, stating: “As Chair of the @WaysandMeansGOP Health Subcommittee, I’m committed to making healthcare more affordable for hardworking Americans. This National Health Center Week, we recognize the role community health centers play in keeping families healthy across the country.”
The following day, August 10, he marked a significant anniversary for a major federal agency: “Celebrating 76 years of the @DeptofDefense! Since 1949, the DoD has played a vital role in protecting our nation. Today, we honor the men and women whose service and leadership keep America safe, strong and free.”
Later on August 10, Buchanan addressed veterans’ health concerns related to Agent Orange exposure: “Agent Orange affected over 300,000 of our Vietnam War veterans who served to protect and defend our freedoms. We must never forget their sacrifice, and we must ensure they continue to receive the care they deserve.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th congressional district since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
