Rep. Vern Buchanan, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, posted a series of statements on social media addressing recent events and commemorations.
On September 10, 2025, Buchanan expressed concern and solidarity regarding an incident involving an individual named Charlie. He wrote, “Please join Sandy and I in praying for Charlie, his family and all who love him during this difficult time. This kind of political violence will not be tolerated.”
Later that same day, Buchanan offered condolences to Charlie’s family and reflected on his character: “Heartbreaking. My heart goes out to Charlie’s wife, their young kids and everyone hurting from this tragedy. Charlie was a leader who engaged in politics the right way: face-to-face with those he disagreed with. Let his legacy stand strong against those who resort to violence.”
On September 11, 2025, Buchanan marked the anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a message honoring victims and first responders: “Today marks 24 years since the 9/11 attacks that took 2,977 innocent lives. We honor the victims, their families and the heroes who rose that horrific day to show the world that America still stood. I was at the Sarasota–Bradenton Airport that day to meet with President Bush”.
Vern Buchanan has served in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 after previously serving in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan is also an alumnus of Cleary University (BA) and the University of Detroit Mercy.
