Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed a range of topics on his social media accounts this week, including health care concerns, military anniversaries, and local sports.
On July 29, Buchanan highlighted the importance of preventive health care measures. In his post he stated, “As a grandfather of 10 under 10, I’m deeply concerned about the rise in obesity and chronic illness and the cost of continuing to treat illness instead of preventing it. Investing in preventive care is key to saving lives and reducing the strain on our health care system.”
Later that day, Buchanan marked a significant military milestone by acknowledging the anniversary of a U.S. Army institution. He wrote on July 29: “Today marks the @ArmyChaplains’ 250th Anniversary. Just weeks after the Continental Army was formed, the Chaplain Corps was established to support our troops and their families. I applaud the Chaplain Corps and all of the incredible work they accomplish.”
On July 30, Buchanan turned his attention to local sports teams in Florida. He expressed support for Tampa Bay’s football team with a message stating: “Great to support Florida’s very own @Buccaneers at their Training Camp. @bakermayfield and the Bucs look ready for another big year, looking forward to a great season ahead! Fire the cannons!”
Vern Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris in Congress. Before serving at the federal level, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and University of Detroit Mercy.
