Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed recent acts of violence and recognized achievements in American space exploration through a series of posts on July 29, 2025.
In his first message posted at 01:23 UTC, Buchanan wrote, “Please join me and Sandy in praying for the NYPD and the victims of the horrific shooting. We’re grateful for the first responders who ran toward danger to protect others. Our prayers are with the family of our fallen hero and those impacted by this senseless act of violence.”
Later that day at 20:15 UTC, he commented on another incident involving law enforcement near the University of Florida: “Sandy and I are praying for those affected by today’s shooting near @UF. We are grateful for the brave first responders who acted swiftly. This violence against police officers must end. Congress needs to pass my Thin Blue Line Act to protect our heroes.”
In a separate post at 21:23 UTC, Buchanan acknowledged NASA’s anniversary and highlighted legislative efforts regarding its headquarters: “Happy Birthday to @NASA! From launching rockets to leading in space operations, NASA is the heart of American innovation. That’s why I’m proud to support @RepDonaldsPress’s CAPE Canaveral Act to move NASA HQ to Florida’s Space Coast, where the future is being built.”
Vern Buchanan has served as a member of Congress since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris. He previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives and resides in Sarasota. Born in Detroit in 1951, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
