Rep. Vern Buchanan, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has recently used his social media platform to highlight concerns over violence against law enforcement and to advocate for the passage of the Thin Blue Line Act.
On August 5, 2025, Buchanan posted: ” I’m calling to pass the Thin Blue Line Act in light of the disturbing rise in violence against law enforcement officers in Florida and across the country. My press conference is LIVE now: https://t.co/C0fTB1R0wq https://t.co/stV3lN54sk”. The post came amid ongoing discussions about safety and support for police officers nationwide.
Later that evening, Buchanan recognized local law enforcement personnel at an annual event, stating on August 5: “Proud to recognize more than 50 of the area’s finest at my 15th Annual Congressional Law Enforcement Awards. Continuing his focus on police safety, Buchanan reiterated his position on August 6: “We’re seeing a deeply troubling surge in violence targeting our brave men and women in blue simply for doing their jobs. Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th District since replacing Katherine Harris in Congress in 2007. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1951, Buchanan currently resides in Sarasota and holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
