Rep. Vern Buchanan, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, has recently used his social media platform to highlight concerns over violence against law enforcement and to advocate for the passage of the Thin Blue Line Act.
On August 5, 2025, Buchanan posted: ” I’m calling to pass the Thin Blue Line Act in light of the disturbing rise in violence against law enforcement officers in Florida and across the country. Later that evening, Buchanan recognized local law enforcement personnel at an annual event, stating on August 5: “Proud to recognize more than 50 of the area’s finest at my 15th Annual Congressional Law Enforcement Awards. Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th District since replacing Katherine Harris in Congress in 2007. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1951, Buchanan currently resides in Sarasota and holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
