Rep. Vern Buchanan, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, posted a series of statements on September 30, 2025, addressing ongoing budget negotiations and the potential for a government shutdown.
In his first post of the day, Buchanan cited constituent support for efforts to prevent a shutdown: “74% of my constituents support efforts to keep the government open. Democrats are threatening a shutdown to secure a $1.5T partisan wishlist. @HouseGOP won’t let that happen. We are fighting to deliver durable, bipartisan solutions for the American people.” (September 30, 2025)
Later that afternoon, Buchanan warned about the consequences of a potential shutdown: “A Democrat shutdown means our veterans risk facing delays in receiving lifesaving services. @HouseGOP is fighting to ensure our troops are paid for their service, our borders are secured and our veterans’ programs are protected.” (September 30, 2025)
In another statement posted in the evening, Buchanan addressed fiscal priorities: “.@HOUSEGOP voted to protect hardworking American taxpayer dollars. Democrats have chosen to prioritize health care benefits for illegal aliens at the expense of Americans in need.” (September 30, 2025)
Buchanan has served in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. He was born in Detroit in 1951 and currently resides in Sarasota. His educational background includes degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
