Rep. Vern Buchanan, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district, has been vocal on social media regarding recent legislative achievements. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan has been serving since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris.
On July 3, 2025, Buchanan expressed his satisfaction with the House GOP’s efforts by stating that “Seventy-seven million Americans made their voices clear in November. They voted for tax cuts for working families, seniors and small businesses and an economy that works for them.” He praised the passage of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” as a move to prioritize America.
The following day, July 4, 2025, he celebrated Independence Day by emphasizing the historical significance of American independence. In his tweet, he mentioned that “Today, we celebrate 249 years of independence.” He linked this celebration to current legislative actions by noting that the House GOP is fulfilling its legacy through economic measures that benefit citizens financially.
Later on July 4th, Buchanan endorsed President Biden’s support for the same bill. He noted that “.@POTUS is right: The ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ is already restoring economic prosperity.” This statement highlighted bipartisan acknowledgment of the bill’s potential impact on job creation and investment.
Vern Buchanan holds a BA from Cleary University and a degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. His tenure in Congress follows service in the Florida House of Representatives.
