Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to highlight recent tax policy changes he says will benefit working families during the 2026 tax season.
On February 2, 2026, Buchanan posted: “Tax season doesn’t have to be stressful. Thanks to @HouseGOP’s Working Families Tax Cuts, filing is simpler, families keep more of their paycheck and refunds are bigger than ever. Real relief for hardworking Americans.”
The following day, he shared polling information from his district: “89% of my constituents support tax policies that help families keep more of their paycheck. As tax season begins, families are seeing real relief thanks to @HouseGOP’s Working Families Tax Cuts, including bigger refunds and investments in the next generation of Americans.” This statement was posted on February 3, 2026.
Later that same day, Buchanan provided additional details about the legislation: “Tax season is here, and @HouseGOP is delivering. The Working Families Tax Cuts increased the standard deduction for married couples filing jointly. More than 90% of families can skip itemizing and pay NO taxes on their first $31,500 of income—keeping more of what they earn.”
Vern Buchanan has served as a member of Congress since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris. He previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives and has resided in Sarasota since beginning his tenure representing Florida’s 16th District.
He was born in Detroit in 1951 and earned degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
