U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan, who serves Florida’s 16th district, recently used his social media platform to share information on disaster relief loans, crime statistics in Washington D.C., and immigration policy proposals.
On August 22, 2025, Buchanan posted about federal assistance for residents of Hillsborough County impacted by June storms. He wrote: “Hillsborough County residents, don’t wait for your insurance settlement before applying for SBA disaster loans. Low-cost loans are available for Hillsborough residents impacted by recent June storms, but the deadline is September 8, 2025. Learn more: https://t.co/3SSRpt28Dg”.
Later that day, Buchanan commented on public safety developments in the nation’s capital: “D.C. just went seven days without a homicide for the first time in months, and crime in the city is DOWN: Carjackings are down 83% Robberies are down 46% Overall violent crime is down 22% @POTUS is keeping Americans safe. https://t.co/IM8CbwD6NE” (August 22, 2025).
On August 23, Buchanan addressed immigration enforcement and trucking regulations: “The illegal that killed three innocent Floridians failed his safety tests, but that didn’t stop liberal sanctuary states from giving him CDLs anyway. @HouseGOP’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” gives ICE the authority to hold sanctuary states accountable. https://t.co/8WGSuAxGE3”.
Vern Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, he graduated from Cleary University and later from the University of Detroit Mercy.
