Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed a range of issues in a series of posts on January 9, 2026.
In his first post of the day, Buchanan wrote, “The American Dream starts with owning a home, but for too many families, that dream has slipped out of reach. @HouseGOP is working to restore opportunity. Today, I voted to pass @RepHouchin’s HOME Act to roll back Biden-era rules and help families achieve homeownership through https://t.co/800P0PRVwv” (January 9, 2026).
Later that afternoon, he acknowledged law enforcement officers on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day: “Grateful for the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to keeping our communities safe. On Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we honor those who uphold the rule of law. Thank you to the law enforcement officers across FL-16 for your courage and service. https://t.co/SOr1ptUV7y” (January 9, 2026).
In his final post that evening, Buchanan commented on federal efforts against fraud: “Every dollar stolen is a dollar taken from American families. @POTUS is taking action to protect taxpayers and uphold the rule of law by creating a new @TheJusticeDept division to crack down on nationwide fraud and hold bad actors accountable. https://t.co/v06fvQjosF” (January 9, 2026).
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th District since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. He was born in Detroit in 1951 and resides in Sarasota. Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
