Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted several initiatives and legislative actions on his social media account, focusing on community investment, law enforcement support, and tax policy.
On August 20, 2025, Buchanan posted about his visit to LECOM Park in Bradenton: “Proud to deliver for our community. I toured @Pirates LECOM Park—home of the Bradenton @The_Marauders—to see how the $3M Community Project Funding I secured in Congress will drive tourism, upgrade facilities and create a new Community Resource Center for Bradenton families.”
Later that day, he addressed legislation supporting law enforcement animals: “The animals that support our law enforcement officers play a vital role in keeping our nation safe. That’s why I’m proud to join @KenCalvert in introducing the BOWOW Act to make assaulting a federal law enforcement animal a deportable offense.” This statement underscores Buchanan’s involvement in bipartisan efforts to enhance legal protections for service animals.
In another post from August 20, 2025, Buchanan discussed recent tax legislation: “.@HouseGOP’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” cuts taxes across the U.S.—including right here in FL-16—according to an analysis from the @TaxFoundation. The average tax cut per taxpayer in 2026 will be $3,896 in Hillsborough County and $4,975 in Manatee County!” The post references an analysis by the Tax Foundation and highlights projected financial impacts for local taxpayers.
Buchanan has served as Florida’s 16th district representative since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris. Before joining Congress, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
