Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared several updates on his official X account, highlighting military commemorations, staff appreciation, and remembrance of fallen servicemembers.
On August 29, 2025, Buchanan marked a significant anniversary for the Marine Forces Reserve by posting: “Today marks 109 years since the founding of the @marforres. Since 1916, reservists have strengthened our active forces, answered the call during national emergencies and served their communities with honor. #MarineCorpsReserve https://t.co/dwEoftd6tN”
Later that day, he expressed gratitude to his summer interns in Washington D.C., writing: “Thank you to my D.C. summer interns, Chase, Emily and Harper, for their commitment and hard work during their internship.

On August 30, Buchanan addressed the loss of U.S. servicemembers during the Afghanistan withdrawal: “13 brave U.S. servicemembers lost their lives four years ago this week because of the Biden admin’s incompetence.

Vern Buchanan has been serving as a member of Congress from Florida’s 16th district since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and University of Detroit Mercy.
