Rep. Vern Buchanan, who has represented Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress since 2007, marked National POW/MIA Recognition Day and highlighted recent legislative actions through a series of posts on September 19, 2025.
In his first post of the day, Buchanan acknowledged service members impacted by war and conflict: “On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we honor the more than 500,000 service members who endured captivity and the nearly 82,000 still missing. We recognize the great sacrifices they made and the ultimate price paid.” (September 19, 2025)
Later that afternoon, Buchanan expressed support for a congressional resolution honoring Charlie Kirk: “Proud to cosponsor and vote in favor of @SpeakerJohnson’s resolution honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. Buchanan also promoted his legislative efforts to modernize hospital care delivery: “Patients should be able to choose where and when they receive care. Proud that my Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act is leading the way to extend proven “Hospital at Home” programs through 2030. Vern Buchanan succeeded Katherine Harris as representative for Florida’s 16th district in Congress in 2007 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and now residing in Sarasota, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
