Representative Vern Buchanan, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, recently shared a series of updates on his legislative priorities and congressional activities via social media. Buchanan, originally from Detroit and now residing in Sarasota, highlighted his efforts to support seniors and law enforcement while also recognizing the contributions of his office interns.
On July 10, 2025, Buchanan stated: “I asked my constituents if they’d support cutting taxes for seniors to help them afford housing, food and medicine. 82% said YES. The ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ delivers $75 billion in tax cuts for seniors across America. @HouseGOP is delivering results.” He emphasized the bill’s focus on providing financial relief to seniors.
Later that day, Buchanan addressed concerns regarding immigration enforcement: “ICEBlock endangers ICE agents by tipping off criminal illegals. As we’ve seen with recent attacks, this isn’t just reckless—it’s deadly. We must deport all criminal aliens. That’s why I voted for the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill,’ which expands ICE funding.” He linked his support for expanded Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) resources to ongoing debates about public safety.
On July 11, 2025, Buchanan acknowledged his D.C.-based interns: “A special thank you to our incredible D.C. interns Connor, Ryan, Hannah and Nikolas for their hard work and dedication, and I look forward to seeing where their careers take them next! If you are interested in applying for a fall internship, apply on my website:” He encouraged prospective applicants to consider internships within his office.
Vern Buchanan replaced former Congress member Katherine Harris in 2007 after serving in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and educated at Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy, he continues to represent Sarasota-area constituents as part of his long-standing career in public service.
