Community members have spoken and voted St. Petersburg College and its nursing program among the “Best of the Best,” according to the Tampa Bay Times 2022 rankings.
SPC earned a gold award as best local college, its third gold award in a row. The college’s the nursing program received a silver award as best nursing college.
“We’re always striving for academic excellence at St. Petersburg College, and it’s very rewarding to see that hard work recognized in the Tampa Bay Times’s annual Best of the Best competition,” said SPC President Dr. Tonjua Williams. “Thank you to everyone who voted SPC and our nursing program into the top spots in the Best Local College and Best Nursing College categories, respectively.”
The community picks winners with their votes, the Best of the Best webpage states. “Being named one of the ‘Best’ is an honor, and with more than 135,000 votes received, this endeavor is a remarkable display of the love and support this community has for local businesses. So, congratulate the winners and continue to support them!”
This isn’t the first time SPC has been ranked in the competition’s top spots. In 2020, the college received gold awards as best local college and best nursing college. Last year, SPC earned a gold award as best local college while the nursing college received a bronze award.
Educating nurses for more than 60 years
“The recognition is important to the College of Nursing at SPC because our core mission is to offer an affordable, high-quality nursing program that empowers students and the local community,” said Dr. Louisana Louis, SPC Dean of the College of Nursing, about the 2022 award.
SPC’s nursing program has been providing highly skilled nurses to health care facilities in the Tampa Bay area for more than six decades.
Earlier this year, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) granted accreditation to the college’s baccalaureate degree program in nursing, which will extend until June 30, 2032. The program first gained accreditation in 2007, and this is its second renewal. The CCNE accreditation is a stamp of excellence that means that SPC students are getting a first-rate education that meets the standards for baccalaureate nursing education. It also allows SPC BSN graduates to matriculate into accredited graduate nursing programs throughout the country.
