Roy Stepanov and Federico Barbon were honored by the men’s tennis coaches in The Sun Conference for their play during the 2022 season.

The tandem was named the conference’s Doubles Team of the Year with Stepanov earning First-Team All-Sun Conference honors and Barbon second-team honors.

Barbon and Stepanov went 10-3 this season and have won their last seven matches. They are the seventh-ranked men’s doubles team in the NAIA in the latest ITA rankings and were the first doubles team in program history to qualify for the ITA Cup.

This is the first time Southeastern has had the doubles team of the year since Gelawdiyos Haile and David Veliz in 2015.

Stepanov was 11-5 this season, playing all but one match at the top spot in the lineup and was 3-3 in Sun Conference play. Barbon was 13-3 this season with a 5-1 mark in Sun Conference play. He was a perfect 4-0 at No. 2 and was 7-3 at No. 3 and has won nine of his last 10 matches.

Stepanov is just the fourth player in program history to make the first team.

The Fire will begin play in The Sun Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon against Ave Maria.
