Don’t Sleep on Titan Sports

3

St. Petersburg College recently issued the following announcement.

Judging by the teams introduced at St. Petersburg College’s Media Day, it’s going to be another great year in Titan sports!

Titan athletes gathered at the Gibbs Campus for Media Day, where they had orientation, got their uniforms, and had headshots taken before mingling with fans and their teammates. The athletes and attendees also played games and enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by Heavy’s food truck. We’re looking forward to a promising year of athletic highlights from our Titan teams!

Check out some athletic highlights from last year:

SPC Women’s Basketball

The Lady Titans were the Champions of the Central Conference this past season, which was the inaugural season of the conference. Head Coach Denisha Davidson was named the conference Coach of the Year, and SPC sophomore Domenica Zamora was named Player of the Year. Zamora was also named the State of Florida Female Academic Player of the Year!  The team also made the state tournament, but fell to Indian River State College.

Men’s Basketball

The team qualified for the state tournament last year because of a secondi  place conference finish. Have a couple D1 prospects in sophomore Amadou Sole Faye and Bronco Balingate. The Titans are coached by Juco hall of fame Coach Earnest Crumbley and are one of the favorites for a state title this year.

Baseball

The team is looking to build off last year’s success, which saw SPC Sophomore Gabe Rincones be named the FCSAA player of the year, first team NJCAA All-American, and get drafted in the 2021 draft. This season, several Titan baseball players are looking to improve their draft status while earning a trip to the state tournament. We are also looking to build off the success of Titan Alumnus Trey Amburgey, who was recently called up by the New York Yankees to play this season. He is one of the 20 players who have gone directly from SPC to professional baseball.

Tennis

Our Lady Titans finished fourth in the Nation and second in the state. SPC Freshman from the Ukraine, Valeria Cherfus, won the State Championship at #1 singles, earning her Player of the Year for the state. Freshman Naomi McKenzie finished #1 at #2 singles. The two also won a state championship at #1 doubles. The Lady Titans are the favorite to win a state championship this spring.

Don’t miss a single game from any of the amazing Titan teams. Check out schedules at SPC Athletics.
