University of Tampa recently issued the following announcement.
The University of Tampa volleyball team has been named the number five team in the nation, according to the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll.
With the preseason ranking, this will mark the 3rd season in the past five years that the Spartans are ranked in the top five of the AVCA poll.
The Spartans are returning 11 players from last year's squad – six of whom played on the 2018 National Championship team. Tampa is the only team from the Sunshine State Conference to sit in the top 25 of the poll. Palm Beach Atlantic, Lynn, Barry, Nova Southeastern and Saint Leo all received votes in the poll.
The Spartans will open up their season with four games in two days next weekend by hosting the Tampa Classic. The team will then travel to New York for a three-game road trip before opening up conference play on September 17.
