University of Tampa issued the following announcement on Oct. 1.

On Thursday, Oct. 14, Michael Hurwitz, restauranteur and franchisee of the well-known Uno Pizzeria & Grill, will be on the hot seat at The University of Tampa’s Ethics Hot Seat Speaker Series, hosted by the UT Center for Ethics at the Sykes College of Business. Masks will be required at all times except when actively eating or drinking.

Michael Hurwitz, restauranteur and franchisee of the well-known Uno Pizzeria & Grill, will be on the hot seat at The University of Tampa’s Ethics Hot Seat Speaker Series.

Hurwitz’s talk, “Ethics and the Hospitality Industry,” will be an interactive journey that explores the frequently questioned ethics associated with the hospitality industry, particularly restaurants and bars. The industry is a central part of the economy, but issues from tipping to substance abuse cause consumers and employees alike to discuss the ethics within the industry.

Hurwitz, along with Robert Marley, director of the UT Center for Ethics, and Ashley Salaiz, assistant professor of management, will spend the evening navigating these ethical situations and will discuss how Hurwitz has maintained a reputation of integrity over his 35-year restaurant franchise career.

Hurwitz began his career in the restaurant business alongside his brother and father, and has since gone on to work in every facet of the hospitality industry. He also sits on and has chaired multiple boards such as the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts and the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

For more information, contact Jordan Hurwitz, staff assistant in the Sykes College of Business, at jhurwitz@ut.edu. Register to attend at ut.edu/centerforethics.
