University of South Florida issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.
The University of South Florida men's tennis team returned home after an impressive showing in the Bedford Cup hosted by Florida State University this past weekend. The Bulls battled individually and in doubles, competing against some of Florida's best Division I men's tennis programs, and posted 19 wins during the three-day event.
Highlighting the weekend was the top-seeded pair Sergio Gomez-Montesa (Valencia, Spain) and Alvin Tudorica (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) who clinched a 7-5 victory over Florida State's Andreja Petrovic and Richard Thongoana in the championship round to claim the title in Flight B Doubles.
Also turning in an impressive performance was transfer Bruno Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) who went undefeated in Flight B singles to secure the title against No. 3 seed Alexandre Hillhouse of Stetson, 6-3, 7-5. His singles run included a 6-1, 6-3 success over teammate Tom Pisane (Antwerp, Belgium) in the quarterfinals.
Antonio Muniz (Barcelona, Spain) advanced straight into the Flight A finals after a 4-0 run that included a win over No. 2 seed Carles Sarrio or Florida Atlantic, 6-4. Later, Muniz fell in the championship to FAU's Kevin Huempfner, 6-7(4), 4-6.
