Spartans Drop SSC Quarterfinal to Tars

The University of Tampa issued the following announcement on Nov. 8.

 The University of Tampa women's soccer team fell in overtime to Rollins College in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:  

Final Score: Rollins Tars 3, Tampa Spartans 2 (2OT)  

Record: Tampa (7-8-1, 6-5 SSC), Rollins (8-6-3, 5-2-3 SSC)  

Location: Pepin Stadium || Tampa, Fla.  

All-time series: Tampa continues to hold the edge over Rollins in the all-time series 18-14-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

FIRST HALF: The first twenty minutes were back and forth between the two teams. Katherine Hostage opened the game for the Spartans, finding the back of the net in the 27th minute. Shortly after, Stephanie DeLaforcade extended the lead for the Spartans after capitalizing on a breakdown from the Tars defense. In the 36th minute, Tars cut the lead in half from a freekick that found the back of the net. Score: Tampa 2, Rollins 1  

SECOND HALF: Tars started the second half pressuring the Spartans to find the equalizer. It came in the 76th minute as the Tars found the back of the net. Both teams were unable to score the game-winner before the end of the half despite quality opportunities. Score: Tampa 2, Rollins 2  

FIRST OVERTIME: Rollins applied the pressure on the Spartans in the first period of overtime, putting two shots on the board, Lovisa Camel tallying a save in the period. Score: Tampa 2, Rollins 2 

SECOND OVERTIME: Most of the second overtime period was spent going back and forth in possession of the two teams. In the last moments of the period, the Tars were able to gather a loose ball off a deflection inside the box and put up one last shot that deflected off a Spartan defender, hit inside of the post, and rolled over the goal line (109') ending the Spartans SSC tournament run. Score: Rollins 3, Tampa 2 

INSIDE THE STATS:  

Camel recorded 9 saves in the match. 

Reni Taiwo and Hostage both received a yellow card in the game. 

Five Spartans played the entire game.
