Job Overview

Performs technical work directing activities concerning inspecting, sampling, testing and evaluating in an environmental pollution control and/or permitting program.

Ideal Candidate

The Hillsborough County Public Utilities Administration, Environmental Management Division is seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist to conduct Stormwater National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance and public outreach programs. The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of NPDES Municipal Separate Storm Sewer (MS4) regulations, and other stormwater related environmental regulations; experience working with volunteers and conducting environmental education and outreach programs; working knowledge of aquatic plants native to Florida as well as nuisance/invasive plants, working knowledge of office computer and ArcGis software; ability to plan, organize, and implement program activities including preparing and giving educational presentations, coordinating volunteer activities, preparing stormwater pollution prevention and surface water quality improvement plans; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to prepare reports and management plans; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others in and outside of the County organization; skill in public speaking; and the ability to work outdoors and in wet environments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science; and
  • Four (4) years of experience in environmental inspection, sampling, testing, or evaluation; and one (1) year of experience as a supervisor or lead worker/team leader or
  • An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job related competencies; and
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
Salary Range: $23.65 - 37.85 Hourly
