The City of Tampa Wastewater Department will host a public meeting on Tuesday, May 3 at the Tampa Garden Club to present information on the Bayshore Boulevard Pumping Station Rehabilitation, a project that will help strengthen the resiliency of wastewater infrastructure across South Tampa.
Bayshore Boulevard Pump Station is responsible for carrying wastewater from several neighborhoods in South Tampa. The existing pump station is located above ground, near 3300 Bayshore Boulevard, directly across from Monte Carlo Towers. The renovated pump station will be relocated underground in the same location.
"The Bayshore Boulevard Pumping Station has undergone many, many improvements since it was originally put into service in 1955," said Eric Weiss, P.E., Director with City of Tampa Wastewater Department. "It's nearing the end of its lifecycle. As a part of Mayor Jane Castor's Transforming Tampa's Tomorrow initiative, this modernization project will renovate and upgrade the existing station."
The rehabilitation project includes:
- Conversion of the existing above-ground pumping station to a submersible pumping station
- Electrical infrastructure upgrade to provide protection from flooding
- New pumps to provide redundancy
- Reconfiguration and relocation to improve safety and remove sight obstructions at Bayshore Blvd and Mason-Stovall Street
- Improved operations and maintenance access
This $12.4 million design-build project is funded by PIPES and is slated to begin in June 2023. The estimated completion date is mid-2024.
The public meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a formal presentation at 6:45 p.m. Residents, property owners, and business owners within the project area are encouraged to attend the meeting. The Tampa Garden Club is located at 2629 Bayshore Boulevard.
