8

After winning the Lawrenceville Bracket in the NAIA Opening Round this past week, the Southeastern University softball team will head to the NAIA Softball World Series held in Columbus, Ga. as one of only 10 teams remaining nationally.

The Fire went 3-1 in the Opening Round tournament after dropping the championship game to Saint Xavier University by a score of 12-6 and taking the if-necessary game in walk off fashion by a score of 3-2 to clinch their second World Series trip.

The 49-11 Fire last advanced to the World Series in 2016 where they went 2-2 with losses to Saint Xavier University and the Stars of Oklahoma City and a highlight win against the then two-time defending champions in Auburn University at Montgomery.

SEU will enter the double elimination tournament as the No. 7 seed and will first face off against the familiar Sun Conference foe in Webber International University on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the winner advancing to take on the second seeded Oklahoma City on Friday at 4 p.m. eastern. The loser will await the loser of Freed Hardeman and Indiana Wesleyan on Friday at 1 p.m.

The Stars advanced to the World Series after defeating Eastern Oregon by a score of 6-1 in the Oklahoma City Bracket championship game, advancing to 50-6 this season. The NAIA powerhouse of Oklahoma City will head to the World Series for the 33rd time in which they have collected an NAIA best 10 World Series Championship titles as well as six runner up titles.

The Lady Lions of Freed Hardeman will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed after recording a 52-4 overall record and a Henderson Bracket Opening Round championship. The Fire and the Lions met earlier in the season in a doubleheader where the Lady Lions took both contests by a score of 5-1 and 5-0.

The Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats punched their ticket to the World Series after going 3-0 in the Marian Bracket. The Wildcats last earned a World Series trip in 2018 where they went 1-2. With losses to Science and Arts and Oklahoma City.
