New Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon Crosswalk in Historic Ybor City

12

Tampa City Council Chairman Joseph Citro and the Columbia Restaurant Group will be joined by City Staff to reveal the enhanced crosswalk / Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) near Casa Santo Stefano in Historic Ybor City.

This project is a great example of a public-private partnership and is also the City of Tampa’s latest Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) installed in the city.

RRFBs help improve safety with a push of a button! They have pedestrian-activated buttons: when a pedestrian wants to cross the street, they push the button, and the beacon flashes – alerting drivers that there’s a pedestrian present.

"A project like this, one with a high-visibility crosswalk and flashing beacons along 22nd Street in Historic Ybor City, shows what is possible in terms of making conditions safer for all road users," said Tampa City Council Chairman Joseph Citro. “We all deserve to be able to move around our communities safely, and prioritizing changes like these can help us meet our Vision Zero goal of getting to zero deaths and serious injuries on our roadways."

These enhanced crossings support the City of Tampa’s Vision Zero mission, eliminating all traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries, which is a key facet of Mayor Jane Castor’s Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow initiatives.

This crossing is also equipped with ADA pavers, providing safer crossings for all.
