The Unversity of Tampa placed two student-athletes on the D2CCA All-America team, including pitchers Haden Erbe and Braydon Nelson. Freshman pitcher Jeremy Adorno from Southern Arkansas University and junior designated hitter Haydn McGeary from Colorado Mesa University headline the 2022 NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-America baseball team, earning the Ron Lenz Pitcher and Player of the Year awards, respectively.
Erbe, a senior from Lafayette, La., was 12-2 with a 2.77 ERA in his first season as a Spartan. In 94.1 innings, Erbe struck out 117 opposing hitters.
Nelson, a senior from Brecksville, Ohio, moved to the bullpen in his third year at Tampa, quickly becoming the ace reliever with one of the nation's top ERAs. Nelson appeared in 24 games this season, going 6-1 with a team-leading 11 saves. He pitched 60.1 innings in relief, striking out 63.
A total of 48 student-athletes were named to either the first, second or third-team All-America squad while 16 were named honorable mention. The CCA All-America and All-Region baseball teams, which are selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members from schools playing Division II baseball, were first established in 2007. This is the seventh year in which the program is solely sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and work closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities. The online nomination and voting processes are provided by University of Tampa partner Presto Sports.
