4

Alisha Miles, currently director of library services for the Air University Library in Montgomery, AL, has been named executive director of the Macdonald-Kelce Library at The University of Tampa.

At UT, Miles will provide the strategic vision, leadership and advocacy for the library, and is responsible for all aspects of library operations and administration. Miles will begin her position on July 18.

The Macdonald-Kelce Library provides UT students access to more than 275,000 books and 65,181 periodicals. As a federal depository, the library is also open to the public seeking government information.

“Alisha Miles’ experience in leading librarians and library staff to improve library operations, manage system changes and utilize cutting-edge technologies will be important to the Macdonald-Kelce Library’s continuing success in supporting students and faculty,” said UT Provost David Stern. “We look forward to her bringing her skills and talents to UT.”

Miles has worked at Air University Library since 2019, where she was responsible for the full scope of library operations, administration and program management, including migrating the integrated library system, optimizing and refreshing educational materials, providing remote access to resources and overseeing website updates to make resources more accessible. Prior to that position, she served as reader services division chief and supervisory administrative librarian.

Miles also held previous leadership positions as chief librarian and director at Stimson Library (TX) serving the Army Medical Departmental Health Readiness Center of Excellence, where she oversaw a 206% year-over-year increase in overall library usage. Prior to that, Miles served as assistant director for public services at Mercer University School of Medicine (GA).

Miles said she is incredibly excited to join the great team at The University of Tampa.

“I was impressed with the great programs UT has built and the Macdonald-Kelce Library’s commitment to service excellence in support of these programs,” she said. “I look forward to working with and leading the Macdonald-Kelce Library in this next chapter.”

Miles earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature at Columbus State University and a master’s degree in library and information studies at Florida State University.

Miles replaces Marlyn Pethe, who is retiring this year after 50 years of service to UT.
