Suarez’s Super Showing Leads Women’s Basketball to Season Opening Win

Southeastern opened its women's basketball season with a 96-77 win at Point Saturday afternoon behind a big game from grad student Gabby Suarez.

The Kissimmee native finished with a career-high 35 points, going 12-of-20 from the field and 7-of-8 at the free throw line. She also had five rebounds, five assists, and a steal.

Southeastern trailed by six at the end of the first quarter, and then 30-19 with 7:41 left in the second but used a 25-7 run to close the half with a 44-37 advantage.

Suarez scored 11 of her points in the third quarter cashing in at the free throw line with a 5-for-5 effort and a 3-for-4 effort from the floor to help SEU lead 71-59 to start the fourth.

The Skyhawks tried to use the 3-ball to get back into the game but were just 2-of-8 in the fourth quarter.

Anja Knoflach had 16 points in her SEU debut and also had six rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Raegan Linster added 15 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals to the winning effort. Josselin Geer added 13 points and Emilia Sexton had 12 points and six assists.

The Fire will be back in action on Friday against No. 17 Loyola at Webber International.
