Volleyball Runs Win Streak to Four

Southeastern pushed its Sun Conference win streak to four and locked up a top four finish in the league with a 3-0 win over Webber International Wednesday night.

The Fire controlled the first two sets with 25-17 and 25-19 wins and overcame a five-point deficit in the third to come away with a 28-26 win.

Southeastern forced five Webber attack errors with two blocks to take the first set with a 9-1 run to close the set. Additionally, the Warriors committed three of their 10 service errors in the opening set.

During the second set, the Fire cranked up the offense to a match-best .273 attacking percentage with 16 kills with Emilia Harding and Grace Petty recording four each.

The Warriors looked like they righted the ship in the third and built a 15-10 lead thanks to a 5-1 run that was fueled mostly by SEU errors. The lead grew to seven at 18-11 but the Fire responded with a 12-5 run getting eight points on kills from five different players. An attack error gave the Fire match point at 24-23, but the Warriors refused to go quietly and used three straight points to have a set point of their own.

A kill by Harding tied the match at 25 and an attack error gave the Fire a third match point which was also won by the Warriors on a kill. Kills by Kennedy Jones and Chapel Cunningham ended the match.

Petty and Jones had 11 kills each. Petty was also the team leader in digs with 20 and had three service aces and a solo block. Harding added 10 kills.

Alexandra Postlethwaite had a match-high 22 assists and Ryanne VanWyk added 14.

Holly Kaczmarek added 17 digs to the winning effort.

The Fire will close out the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. against St. Thomas, which clinched the conference regular season title.
