Women's Basketball Begins Conference Slate

The No. 6 ranked Southeastern University women's basketball team will head into their Sun Conference slate this week as they take on Ave Maria on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. on the road.

The Fire opened their season with a 1-2 record and are looking to get back in the win column after dropping their last two contests to No. 17 Loyola University and Stillman College.

In a very narrow scoring margin, the Fire average 77.7 points per contest while their opponents average 77.3. Southeastern is currently averaging a field goal percentage of .395 and a three-point percentage of .353 as graduate students Gabby Suarez and Raegan Linster sit as co-leaders in scoring with 61 points each. Each Fire player has found success in different places with Suarez shooting 40% from mid-range and Linster shooting 40% from distance. Linster also sits at 10 rebounds per contest to average a double-double.

The Gyrenes hold a current 3-1 record with their one loss coming against Brewton-Parker by a score of 65-60. Averaging 80.3 points per game, AMU currently holds a field goal percentage of .434 and has converted 24 shots from beyond the arc. Casey Humphrey has been the most successful offensive player for the Gyrenes as she has recorded 48 points behind a .513 field goal percentage and .429 three-point percentage. Defensively, Grace Field has grabbed a team-best 28 rebounds for an average of seven per contest.

The Fire will look to move their win streak to 16 over the Gyrenes as they hold a winning historical record of 20-12 including a lopsided 111-51 victory in the Sun Conference Semifinal in their last matchup.
