Hurricane Season officially starts June 1 and another above-average hurricane season is in the forecast for 2022. Largo’s Emergency Management Planning Committee (EMPC) recently participated in a planning exercise with Pinellas County’s Emergency Management to ensure Team Largo is ready to respond when needed.
Making sure you and your loved ones will survive a storm or other disaster is a year-round task that requires attention to your personal business, your family, your home, and your vehicles. It is not a task that can be done in just 24 hours, so start your planning now.
KNOW YOUR ZONE
To know when to evacuate for hurricane surge flooding, residents must know their zone. To view evacuation zones and determine when to evacuate, visit at PinellasCounty.org/Emergency.
MAKE A PLAN
According to the National Hurricane Center, the most active time for hurricanes and tropical storms in August and September, with storm season ending November 30. Be sure to complete your disaster plan before the chaos of an approaching storm so you aren’t caught off guard and unprepared.
BUILD A KIT
Nature is unpredictable and having a disaster supply kit on hand is vital. Basic supplies should include water, non-perishable food, battery-powered or hand-crank radio, medications and prescriptions, chargers, flashlights, a first aid kit, and extra batteries.
