U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district and serves as Chair of the Health Subcommittee on the House Ways and Means Committee, posted a series of statements on September 9, 2025, addressing topics ranging from crime coverage to health care policy and economic issues.
In his first post of the day, Buchanan criticized media coverage regarding a recent incident in North Carolina: “No coverage from the liberal media of this tragic murder in Charlotte of a young Ukrainian refugee. Sandy and I are praying for her family during this heartbreaking time. @POTUS is right: repeat violent offenders must be locked up.” (September 9, 2025)
Later that afternoon, Buchanan discussed health care access following a meeting with medical leaders: “I recently met with leaders from Johns Hopkins @AllChildrens Hospital to discuss their continued growth across Florida. As Chair of the Health Subcommittee on @WaysandMeansGOP, I remain committed to advancing policies that strengthen health care access for all families.” (September 9, 2025)
In an evening post, Buchanan addressed economic policy and recent legislative efforts: “Biden misled Americans to hide his broken economy. @HouseGOP and @POTUS are delivering real solutions like the Working Families Tax Cuts bill to restore economic prosperity.” (September 9, 2025)
Vern Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district in Congress since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and is currently based in Sarasota. Born in Detroit in 1951, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
