Rep. Vern Buchanan, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district and Chair of the House Democracy Partnership, shared updates on diplomatic relations, small business advocacy, and health care policy in a series of posts on September 22, 2025.
In his first post at 16:40 UTC, Buchanan highlighted a recent meeting with Ambassador Bah regarding international cooperation. He wrote, “Grateful to have met with Ambassador Bah to discuss U.S.–Gambia relations and explore opportunities for regional security and economic cooperation. Later that day at 18:04 UTC, Buchanan addressed concerns about regulatory burdens on small businesses. He stated, “Small businesses are the backbone of our local economies and deserve our full support. Proud to join @Rep_Davidson and @SenatorBanks in urging the @USTreasury to roll back burdensome reporting requirements that drive up costs and create an unnecessary strain for Main Street.”
At 20:07 UTC, Buchanan discussed his ongoing efforts in health care reform following a meeting with Pete November, CEO of Ochsner Health. In his post he said, “Recently met with Pete November, CEO of @OchsnerHealth, to discuss health care policy and ways to improve patient outcomes. As Chair of the @WaysandMeansGOP Health Subcommittee, I’m focused on expanding access, making care more affordable and driving innovation.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th district in Congress since 2007 after replacing Katherine Harris; he previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University (BA) and the University of Detroit Mercy.
