U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district, recently highlighted local issues and legislative initiatives in a series of posts on social media.
On August 28, 2025, Buchanan emphasized the importance of urgent care centers in his district, stating, “Urgent care centers play a critical role in keeping Americans healthy. I recently met with FL-16 urgent care providers to discuss expanding access to affordable and high-quality care for all. Thank you to all the urgent care professionals who serve our community.”
Later that day, Buchanan commented on leadership changes in local education, writing on August 28, 2025: “Dr. Laurie Breslin will be a great superintendent for @Manateeschools! As a proud graduate of the School District of Manatee County, Dr. Breslin brings the experience needed to lead the District from her leadership roles in Manatee and Sarasota schools.”
Addressing senior citizens’ concerns about Social Security taxation, Buchanan posted on August 29, 2025: “FL-16 is home to nearly 200,000 seniors who have worked hard, paid their dues and deserve peace of mind in retirement. @HouseGOP’s ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ ensures that 88% of seniors on Social Security will no longer pay federal taxes on their benefits.”
Buchanan has represented Florida’s 16th congressional district since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and resides in Sarasota. Born in Detroit in 1951, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University and the University of Detroit Mercy.
