Rep. Vern Buchanan, U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 16th district and Chairman of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, shared a series of posts on August 13, 2025, addressing technology in healthcare, crime in Washington D.C., and federal AI policy.

In his first post of the day, Buchanan highlighted his meeting with a company focused on infant health: “Great to meet with @owletbabycare to discuss how wearables are helping parents monitor their babies’ health. As Chairman of the @WaysandMeansGOP Health Subcommittee, I’m proud to support innovative solutions that give families peace of mind.” (August 13, 2025)

Later, he criticized Democratic leadership in the nation’s capital: “D.C. Democrats have run our nation’s capital into the ground, allowing crime and corruption to run rampant. America is the greatest country in the world. There is no reason why our capital should have a murder rate higher than some of the most dangerous places across the globe.” (August 13, 2025)

In a subsequent post regarding artificial intelligence policy, Buchanan commented on recent executive actions: “.@POTUS understands the importance of driving innovation in AI, and is fighting to keep America ahead.  Biden’s AI Diffusion Rule crippled AI development, letting China get ahead. I joined @RepMarkAlford in calling on Secretary of Commerce @howardlutnick to repeal it.” (August 13, 2025)

Buchanan has served as a member of Congress for Florida’s 16th District since replacing Katherine Harris in 2007 and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives. He was born in Detroit in 1951 and resides in Sarasota. Buchanan earned degrees from Cleary University and University of Detroit Mercy.
