Vern Buchanan, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 16th district since 2007, recently shared his views on pressing national issues through a series of tweets. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Buchanan has been an active voice in Congress and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives.
On July 7, 2025, Buchanan addressed the issue of rising housing prices by advocating for relief measures to assist families aspiring to own homes. He highlighted his legislative effort with the “One Big, Beautiful Bill”, which includes his Middle Class Mortgage Insurance Premium Act aimed at restoring and expanding the mortgage insurance tax deduction.
In a tweet dated July 8, 2025, Buchanan expressed concern over recent attacks on first responders across various locations in the United States. He mentioned incidents in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Alvarado, Texas; and McAllen, Texas where first responders were ambushed within a short span of time. These events resulted in casualties and injuries. Buchanan urged Congress to pass his Thin Blue Line Act to address these assaults on officers (source).
Later that day, Buchanan reacted to a tragic incident involving a young woman killed by an illegal immigrant driving under the influence. He described this event as “horrifying” and reiterated his support for the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which aims to deport criminal illegal immigrants to prevent such tragedies (source).
Buchanan graduated from Cleary University with a BA in 1975 and from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1986. Now residing in Sarasota at age 71, he continues to be an influential figure addressing key issues facing Americans today.
