U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan, who represents Florida’s 16th district, shared updates on social media on September 11, 2025, addressing the passing of a community figure, local development initiatives, and recent legislative action.
In a post published at 19:50 UTC, Buchanan reflected on the legacy of Charlie, stating: “As we mourn Charlie, I’m grateful for his impact across our state. Charlie, who owned a home in Longboat Key, recently traveled to USF, UF and FSU to promote open debate. I hope the students who heard him carry on his commitment to peaceful dialogue.”
Later that evening at 21:03 UTC, Buchanan highlighted economic development efforts in Tampa Bay: “Great to meet with Darryl Shaw and his team to discuss the Ybor Harbor project. This major investment will transform the Port Tampa Bay area, creating jobs and strengthening our community.”
Addressing national policy concerns at 21:49 UTC the same day, Buchanan commented on border security measures: “Illegal aliens who are successfully deported face minimal penalties for illegally reentering the country, and many go on to be arrested for heinous crimes. Today, I voted for the Stop Illegal Entry Act to crack down on illegal reentry and secure our border. “
Vern Buchanan has served as U.S. Representative for Florida’s 16th District since 2007 after succeeding Katherine Harris. He previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives and is known for his involvement in both local issues such as economic development projects and national debates including immigration reform. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota, Buchanan holds degrees from Cleary University (1975) and University of Detroit Mercy (1986).
