Rep. Vern Buchanan, who has represented Florida’s 16th district in the U.S. Congress since 2007, recently addressed a range of issues on his social media account, including Medicaid protections, hurricane preparedness, and support for law enforcement.
On August 21, 2025, Buchanan posted about legislative efforts to safeguard Medicaid: “.@HouseGOP’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” ensures that Medicaid is protected for those who truly need it, like children, single moms and the disabled. Great to see Sec. @RobertKennedyJr and @DrOzCMS working to purge illegal aliens from Medicaid databases.”
The following day, he highlighted the importance of preparing for hurricane season in Florida: “Hurricane season is here, and now is the time to prepare. Make sure to have an emergency plan, and sign up for local alerts through Manatee and Hillsborough Counties. After a storm, my office can help you navigate FEMA to get the support you need.” This message comes as residents across Florida are encouraged to take proactive steps during hurricane season.
Later on August 22, Buchanan reported meeting with local law enforcement leaders: “Great to meet with FL-16 police chiefs and sheriffs to discuss how we can keep our neighborhoods safe and support our law enforcement community. I will always fight for the men and women who protect and serve.”
Buchanan has served in Congress since 2007 after replacing Katherine Harris as representative of Florida’s 16th district. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Detroit in 1951 and currently residing in Sarasota at age 71, Buchanan graduated from Cleary University in 1975 and later earned a degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.
